The IATF 16949 standard is the standard that determines the Quality Management System requirements for the automotive industry.  worldwide in 1999.  The automotive industry supply chain was created to reconcile different assessment and certification plans.  The priority of the said standard is to reduce waste and deviations in the automotive industry supply chain and to ensure continuous improvement to prevent malfunctions.  Standard automotive when combined with customer-specific requirements  It serves to define the Quality Management System requirements for production, service and spare parts.   

IATF 16949 is an independent Quality Management standard that fully complies with the requirements and structure of ISO:9001.  Therefore, it cannot be applied alone, but should be applied together in addition to the ISO 9001 standard.
